Traeger Bronson 20 Review

About Traeger Wood Pellet Grills

Known as the brand with the slogan, “set it and forget it,” Traeger has been revolutionizing the wood pellet grills for over 30 years. Wood pellet grills are unique in how they dispense heat and cook food. You pour the pellets into a hopper which than funnel into an auger, and brings the pellets over an induction fan. Once the pellets reach the fire pot, a hot rod sets the pellets alight, and the aforementioned induction fan sends that heat up into the cooking chamber. Thus, you receive a convection cooking effect.

And everyone knows that nothing tastes better than wood-fired barbecue! Wood pellets are also more environmentally-friendly and easier to use than charcoal and gas grills. Because of this, the Traeger Bronson 20 Grill, for example, is an excellent outdoor cooking companion.

The Grill is built very sturdy with the main body of the grill being metal, and the cooking grate itself is stainless steel, the wheels on the Bronson 20 are a good size and are large enough to get around.

Holds temperature very steady and does a very good job and adding a smoky flavor.

I haven't tried the Bronson 20 in winter yet, so I can't tell exactly what kind of affect the cold weather will have on the Grill. Note that the cooking chamber is only a single layer, meaning that heat retention might be an issue when the temperatures start to drop. I will update once we get into the winter months.

It doesn’t take much to assemble the grill, though you can anticipate spending about 15 minutes putting it together. In order to get the assembly done faster, you can roll the grill onto its side and follow the instructions. Once you have the grill up and standing, you simply run it for about 45 minutes before you grill for the first time.

Best Features of the Traeger Bronson 20

Here are some of the most popular features of the Traeger Bronson 20:

Digital Thermostat

Traeger Grill

Traeger is continuously innovating their grills, and the LED digital thermostat is one of those unique features that make this grill a worthwhile investment. Because you can monitor the temperature within the chamber without opening the lid, you can cook more evenly. As you adjust the temperature using the thermostat, the airflow and amount of pellets are also automatically adjusted.

The thermostat can reach temperatures of 450 degrees Fahrenheit (230 degrees Celsius), which is recommended for roasting vegetables and meat. The Bronson 20 is also adept at maintaining a low level of heat, and the fuel economy during this kind of cooking is excellent. Only about 1 pound of pellets will be consumed each use. However, I have noticed that at higher temperatures the grill consumes pellets a lot faster.

The Bronson 20 Pellet Grill has quite a bit of room despite the compact size. Initially I thought the capacity would not be enough, especially if we have family or friends over. But, I've grilled Salmon, Veggies, Burgers and Chicken on the grill for 4 adults and 6 kids without any trouble.

The pellet hopper capacity is 10 pounds. In other words, you can whip up a smorgasbord in no time and not have to worry about refueling the grill for a while.

Ease of Use

Nothing is better than a single push button to get everything started. With the Bronson 20, gone are the days of trying to light the grill with lighter fluid, fighting wind to get charcoal lit, or working with gas tanks. All you need to do is adjust the temperature and make sure there’s enough pellets in the hopper to get started.

Furthermore, cooking and clean up is a breeze. Thanks to the fat catching drip pan, all the grease runs off into the drainage system. Line the drip tray with Aluminum foil for easy clean up.

Final Thoughts

The Traeger brand is one known for dependability and durability, which is definitely something you will get should you decide to purchase the Traeger Bronson 20 Wood Pellet Grill. Though the Traeger Bronson 20 might not be the most noteworthy of wood pellet grills that Traeger offers, I highly recommend this grill to anyone that is new to pellet grilling and is looking for a budget friendly pellet grill. It is indeed an excellent choice for those looking for an easy to use model that offers surprising versatility.
